Selling Points

  • Contains a blend of brain-boosting nutrients: Combines coffee with cognitive-enhancing ingredients like Lion's Mane and Magtein for improved focus and clarity.

    • L-Threonate: L-Threonate is a magnesium form that easily crosses the blood-brain barrier, improvoing memory, learning, and cognitive function. It increases brain magnesium levels, which supports synaptic connections and reduces age-related cognitive decline.

Lion’s Mane: Lion’s Mane is a medicinal mushroom that promotes brain cell regeneration by stimulating nerve growth factor (NGF). It’s known for improving memory, focus, and mental clarity while also offering mood-boosting and anti-inflammatory benefits.

  • The portability and convenience: I keep some in my desk at work for the days where I need an extra kick.

  • Comes in four flavors:

  • Minimal ingredients.

  • Keto and vegan-friendly.

  • Low calorie and sugar-free.

Drawbacks

  • It’s not organic: I like organic coffee for the reasons I write about here. For me, this means IQJOE is more of an occasional treat than my go-to daily brew.

  • Not carb-free: Each pack contains 4g of carbs, which is relatively low, but it can still interfere with fasting routines. For me, that simply means I save it for later in the day when my intermittent fasting window has ended.

  • Contains natural flavors: While "natural flavors" sound benign, this term can be a stand-in for additives that aren’t disclosed on the label. These natural flavors are what make the various deliciousness of IQJOE (e.g. vanilla, mocha, and hazelnut) but it also leaves room for ingredients that might be less than healthy.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

  • Anyone looking for a boost in productivity or focus: Magnesium L-Threonate and Lion’s Mane have evidence-based benefits (see above) that help to improve memory, attention, and cognitive function.

  • People on-the-go: The “sticks” are small, convenient, and easy to pour into a glass of water or use as a steroid for the weak coffee you already have.

  • Endurance athletes, campers, hikers, and the outdoorsy: The Lion’s Mane and L-Threonate allow sustained cognitive energy, the packets mean you can take it with you on trips, and the flavors mean you’ll never get bored of them.

Tips

iqjoe graphic of benefits
  • Consider half-dosing: Don’t feel the need to dump the whole pack in. If I need a pick-me-up after a late night or with a lot of upcoming work, I pour half a pack in my coffee.

  • Consider it cold: I’ve tried them both hot and hold and I prefer the latter. Fill a glass with water and ice, pour in the pack, and mix.

My Experience

I first stumbled upon IQJOE after getting hooked on IQBAR’s protein bars, which led me to explore their other products. Being a die-hard coffee fan, I was both intrigued and skeptical about trying an instant coffee blend. My prior experiences with instant coffee were lackluster, mostly limited to camping trips where taste was sacrificed for convenience. But IQJOE promised more than just caffeine—it boasted brain-boosting nutrients like Lion’s Mane and Magnesium L-Threonate, along with rich flavors.

To my surprise, the flavors were more pronounced than I expected but still smooth (my favorite is the vanilla spice). I also liked the versatility: I could mix it cold on hot days or throw it in my coffee like a flavored espresso shot on days where I’m dragging my feet. The subtle kick from Lion’s Mane added an extra layer of mental clarity without the anxiety and jitters I usually get from drinks packed with caffeine.

One of the best parts is the convenience when I’m at work or hiking. It provides a boost of energy through the caffeine with more sustained focus with the adaptogens and without the crash afterward.

I’ll often skip breakfast and occasionally do a 24-hour fast so it’s on these days that I skip the IQJOE since it has some carbs. They’re not going to break the bank but if I’m committing to a fast, I’m going to do it right.

Overall, IQJOE transformed my perception of “instant coffee.” It’s a guilt-free, nutrient-packed pick-me-up that I;m going to keep buying for a long time.

The Final Verdict

IQJOE is a solid choice if you're looking for a convenient, nutrient-dense coffee with brain-boosting benefits, especially if you need sustained mental energy throughout your day. And start with the variety pack to sample all of the flavors.
